Dribbling & Passing Interchange

Dribbling & Passing Interchange is a brilliant way to start off your Training Sessions or Pre match warm up.

Its get your players moving, communicating and focused quickly setting you up perfectly for the rest of the session.

The more times your players perform this drill, the faster and better it will become. The number of touches required will drop, the precision of the passes will improve and the speed is it done at will increase.

It also makes your players think more about their movement after they have passed the ball in the game.

Dribbling & Passing Interchange – How it works

Set up across the width of the pitch.

Put players in groups of 3 at either end with the gap between each player of about 10 yards.

The Player in the centre starts with the ball. They take a couple of touches, then pass the ball into the path of the player on the left, then follow that pass.

The player on the left controls the ball and dribbles back into the middle ( with 2 or 3 touches max ) then passes out to the player on the right and follows that pass.

The player on the right then controls and dribbles back into the middle before passing out to the left and following.

And repeat until they get to the other end. The final pass should be to the awaiting player in the middle.

This then repeats going the other way.

Check out the video below.

Dribbling & Passing Interchange – Coaching Points

Challenge your players to make the movements in as little touches as possible. So their control touch, instead of being in front of them, begins the movement inside.

This could then make the 2nd touch the pass to the next player.

This will help the overall speed and interchange of the drill giving it a real flow.

Dribbling & Passing Interchange – Scale Ups

When the players are on the left and right hand sides, they can only use the foot of that side. Right side, right foot. Left side Left foot only.

Also – the pass from the middle to the right should be made with the left foot.

The Pass from the middle to the left should be made with the right foot.

This will encourage them to use both feet in both passing and control elements of the drill.
