Pass, Control & Move
Pass, Control & Move is a Principal based drill that focuses on expanding the play and having the body open to take the ball away from the defenders and move it on.
This fast paced rotational drill will really test the touch and passing quality of your players.
This drill can be used as a single simple single rotation as above, or run 2 drills side by side reversing the movements as in the Scale up below.
Pass, Control & Move – How it works
Player in Position ( 1. ) passes to the feet of the Player in Position ( 2. ) then follows their pass.
Player in Position ( 2. ) lets the ball run across their body and controls with their back foot, pushing the ball into their path as they turn and play the pass with their front foot to the Player in
Position ( 3. ) then follows their pass.
Player in Position ( 3. ) lets the ball run across their body and controls with their back foot, pushing the ball into their path as they turn and play the pass with their front foot to the Player in
Position ( 4. ) the follows their pass.
Player in Position ( 4. ) lets the ball run across their body and controls with their back foot, pushing the ball into their path as they turn and play the pass with their front foot to the Player in
Position ( 5. ) then follows their pass ready to receive a return pass for the 1-2
Player in Position ( 5. ) meets the pass and plays a first touch pass back toward the player coming from Position ( 4. ), then darts round the back of the cone to receive the 1-2 back and dribbles back to the starting position.
Pass, Control & Move – Scale Up
The Scale Up runs 2 drills at the same time but as a Mirror of each other.
Once they have completed one side and end up in Position ( 5. ) they will then move to the start of the opposite drill.
The reason for setting up mirror drills like this, is that your players will get to work both feet in both control and passing techniques.
With the positions constantly changing, they will really need to concentrate to ensure they are controlling and passing with the correct foot for each station.
Pass, Control & Move – Coaching Points
Encourage your players to be precise with their passing and explain how a loose pass can really mess up the control option for the next player.
Explain to your players why they are using the back foot to control, as it opens up the body and allows them to escape an incoming player.
