Pass & Move into 1v1

Pass & Move into 1v1 is a brilliant drill that tests multiple parts of your players game.

Fast feet and good controlled short passes lead into a long raking pass, a great touch required then a 1-2 leading into a 1v1. Calmness then needed to lift their head, pick a spot and finish against an advancing keeper.

Thats a lot going on in a 30 second spell and your players will need to be switched on.

The first few goes might be a bit all over the place, in particular the quality of the long pass, but they more the do it the better they will get.

Pass & Move into 1v1 – How it Works

Mark out 2 flat circles 6 yards in from the goal line, between the penalty area and the touchline.

Mark out 4 flat circles in a 8 x 8 box on the halfway line.

Red player starts with the ball. Yellow player stands opposite

Blue player starts in the box. GK starts on the goal line.

Red player passes the ball to Yellow player who plays a first time pass back.

Yellow player moves to the marker on the right. Red player passes first time to yellow player on the right marker who returns the pass first time again.

Yellow player then moves to the marker on the left. Red player passes first time to yellow player on the left marker who again, returns the pass first time.

Yellow player then turns and runs toward the box that Blue player is in.

Red player takes a touch or 2 to set themselves for a long pass to Blue player.

Blue player controls the ball in the box, then plays a pass into the feet of the Yellow player who plays a first time return into the path of the Blue player.

Blue player has one touch to set up the shot and finish.

Pass & Move into 1v1 – Coaching Points

What you are really looking for is 3 very good quality 1-2’s at the start of the drill.

Both players on their toes, good accurate first time passes at a good tempo. This sets up the rest of the drill.

If players are flat footed and playing soft, short or misplaced passes, start the drill again until it’s up to a standard you expect.

For the long pass, the ultimate aim is for a driven pass, but at first accuracy is essential. Player 3 shouldn’t have to leave the box to receive the pass.
