Small Sided Games (SSG): 4 v 4
Small Sided Games (SSG): 4 v 4 is a fantastic drill to drop into your training sessions.
Small sided Games are always fast and intense workouts giving your players the “matchday” type experience they need alongside the drills.
They don’t have to be straightforward games either, you can add situations into them to make your players think a little more about what is going on and what their next move must be.
Small Sided Games (SSG): 4 v 4 – How it works
Split your squad into 3 teams of 4. (If you don’t have enough, go with teams of 3 and use a coach as the extra in the corner)
If you have 2 Keepers, keep them in goal all the time, if not, play without keepers and use smaller goals.
Team 1 v Team 2 to start with. Team 3 will place 1 player in each corner.
Teams 1 & 2 can score in either goal (This helps teach switching play and getting heads up). Really encourage this
However, they can only score by playing a 1-2 with a member of Team 3 in one of the corners. Once receiving the return pass, they have 3 touches to score.
The players in the corners must try and play the ball back to any member of the team playing the pass to them.
The players in the corners cannot be tackled but their passes can be intercepted. If intercepted, the team that has won the ball will need to play a new 1-2 to be able to score.
The rest of the game is free play. Run, dribble, pass your way to victory,
Rotate after each goal. Winner stays on.
