Training Plan : 20 Points
This is a brilliant training plan that should take up the whole session.
Split the squad into 2, 3 or 4 groups of 5, depending on your squad size and or number of coaches available.
Rotate through the training plan drills keeping score as you go. (Score tracker template at the bottom of the page)
Each drill focuses on different elements, meaning the players will not only have a lot of fun, the will learn a lot also.
After 3 or 4 weeks, repeat the training plan and challenge the players to better their previous score.
Drill #1: Control
4 Cones are set out in a box. The size of the box is up to you, depending on the age group / ability levels.
The Player will stand toward the back of the box, and the Coach will either throw or pass 5 balls to the player to control.
The Player will get 1 point for every ball they control within the box.
If the ball goes out of the box, 0 points scored.
1. | Pass #1: Firm Pass to the Players Feet – Encourage a soft first tough |
2. | Pass #2: High Ball (Short / Towards the front of the box) – Encourage the player to come towards the ball and get there before it bounces |
3. | Pass #3: Bouncing ball towards the knees – Encourage the player to be quick footed and adjust their body position |
4. | Pass #4: High Ball (Toward Centre of the Box) – Encourage player to meet the ball and control on the knee |
5. | Pass #5: Chest Pass – Teach player how to control the ball on their chest. |

DRILL #2: Hit the Target
Each Player will get 5 Shots at Goal, against a Goalkeeper from 5 different parts of the pitch.
After each shot, the player will run around alternative cones before taking the next shot.
Shots 1 to 4 are static shots.
Shot 5, the player will receive a pass from the coach, and have 1 touch to turn, and then a shot.
1. | Shot #1: Penatly – After the shot, player runs around the BLUE cone (inside to outside) before moving on. |
2. | Shot #2: RIGHT FOOT – Inside penalty area from the Left – After the shot, player runs around the YELLOW cone (inside to outside) before moving on. |
3. | Shot #3: LEFT FOOT – Inside penalty area from the Right- After the shot, player runs around the BLUE cone (inside to outside) before moving on. |
4. | Shot #4: Edge of the Box – After the shot, player runs around the YELLOW cone (inside to outside) before moving on. |
5. | Shot #5: As player runs round the cone, they approach the Coach who plays a pass into feet. They have one touch to set themselves up and then MUST shoot from outside the Area |

DRILL #3: One on One
Each Player will have a One on One ( 1 v 1 ) with all of the other players
Use the Penalty area as the Pitch dimensions
Each game lasts 30 seconds MAX or until a goal is scored
If the ball goes out of play – 0 points scored
If time runs out – 0 points scored
Encourage the players to use tricks and express themselves.

DRILL #4: Finishing a Cross
Player will start from the Red Cone.
As they run into the Box, they shout call for the ball, the Coach will then cross the ball and they must finish FIRST TIME.
Crosses 1, 2 & 3 will come from the LEFT WING and must be finished with the RIGHT FOOT
Crosses 4, 5, & 6 will come from the RIGHT WING and must be finished with the LEFT FOOT
After each Cross, the Player must return to the Red cone, and call the Coach when ready for the next Cross
1 Point for each goal scored.
0 points if more than one touch taken

TRAINING PLAN: TOTAL POINTS AVAILABLE: 20
A really great Training Plan that will keep the players entertained and focuses whatever the age group or level.
Track each players score for each drill and Tally them up.
Repeat after 3 or 4 weeks and see if they can beat there scores
