Warm Up Drill – 3 in a Row is a great way to start of a training session.

It is fun, fast paced and gets your players working together and communicating.

Only the players at the top of the block are allowed to pass directions to those running with the bibs, so they have to concentrate on what is happening before they hand the bib over to ensure they have the best chance.

Getting your players to communicate at the start of training sessions is a great way for it to flow into the rest of your drills.

Warm Up Drill – 3 in a Row – How it Works

Split your players into two equal teams.

Set out 9 Cones equally spaced apart in a grid.

Set out two cones at the top of the grid and place 2 players on the cones.

The rest of the players start at the bottom of the grid.

Each team has 3 bibs on the floor in front of them.

One the whistle, the first players pick up a bib, and sprint across the grid to the players at the top and hand them the bib.

Those players then run to the grid and place their bib on a cone. Once done, the return to the start and tag the next player who picks up the next bib and repeats the process.

Once all 3 bibs have been placed, if a team has 3 in a Row then they win.

If they don’t have 3 in a Row, the process continues in the same way, expect this time the players who run from the top of the grid are allowed to move 1 bib to try and get 3 in a Row and win the game.

Warm Up Drill – 3 in a Row – Scale it Up

Once the players have got used to it, the scale up is great.

Add a ball to the mix.

Additional concentration required as the have to dribble through the grid without knocking a cone. ( If they do, they have to stop the ball and replace the cone )

The pass has to be good and accurate.

A big can only be placed or moved once the ball is stationary. If the ball is not stopped and a bib is dropped, it is called a foul and the player has to go back and stop the ball at the cone.
